As Naruto watches himself fall to the ground, he wonders whom he punched. In
a fury, he points his finger at a version of himself, yelling “You’re
Kakashi Sensei, aren’t you?! You used Henge no jutsu to transform into
me!!” The various clones engage in an all out brawl to figure out which
of them is Kakashi. Finally, one of them speaks up. “Hey, you know…why
don’t you just release the jutsu? Then you’ll know because there
will only be two.” They continue to call each other morons, until Naruto
has managed to punch out all the clones, leaving himself alone in the field.
Naruto looks beaten up and stunned, as a small tear rolls down his face. Sakura
can’t believe how uncool Naruto is. Sasuke reveals that Kakashi used Kawarimi
no jutsu (body switching technique), and not Henge no jutsu as Naruto originally
thought.
Kawarimi no jutsu is done by quickly switching ones body with an animal or
plant to confuse the enemy and create an opportunity to attack. Kakashi switched
his body with one of Naruto’s clones. This tactic not only caused Naruto
to be confused, but also to sustain a lot of damage. “Pft.” Sasuke
exhales derisively.
Naruto turns his head and notices a bell on the ground. His face breaks out
into a large grin, as he can’t believe his luck. He runs towards it and
reaches for the bell, only to have his foot caught in a trap. Naruto is yanked
up in the air, and now hangs upside down from a tree. “What the hell is
this?!!” exclaims Naruto. From his hiding spot, Sasuke watches the boy
struggle. “A trap…obviously…But that jounin, even when playing
with Naruto has, no openings.”
Kakashi saunters casually over to Naruto and retrieves the bell. He tells the
boy that he must think before using a jutsu, or it will be used against him.
“And also…don’t fall for such obvious traps, idiot. A ninja
must be able to read what’s underneath the underneath.” Naruto is
furious and tells Kakashi that he already knows that stuff, but the sensei simply
puts his hands in his pockets, saying that he’s telling Naruto because
he doesn’t know.
From his hiding spot, Sasuke spots an opening and launches a flurry of kunai
and shuriken. They hit Kakashi, and the jounin starts to fall. Naruto is shocked
and yells, “Sasuke, you bastard! You went too far!!” But in a puff
of smoke, it is revealed that Kakashi used Kawarimi no jutsu yet again, leaving
behind a log riddled with shuriken. Naruto and Sasuke are wide-eyed with shock.
From a hiding spot in the bushes, Kakashi’s eye peers out into the forest.
“So he’s there…” Sasuke starts to move quickly, cursing
himself. “Damn! Another Kawarimi. From the shuriken he knows where I am.
He showed an opening on purpose. Pathetic. I fell for his trap!”
In response to the commotion, Sakura takes off in search of Sasuke. She wonders
if Kakashi has already disposed of him, but quickly thinks better of it, “No,
not Sasuke-kun. That would not happen to him.” In a clearing, she notices
Kakashi reading his book. “Phew, he didn’t notice me.”, Sakura
thinks with relief. Sakura is suddenly caught off guard by a voice. “Sakura,
behind you.” She turns her head to see Kakashi sensei.
Meanwhile, back at the tree, Naruto is using a kunai to cut himself free from
the trap. “Underneath the underneath?! What a moron.”, mutters Naruto.
As he frees himself from the trap and jumps to the ground, Naruto declares that
he’s not going to fall for any more of Kakashi’s traps anymore.
He lands on the ground with a thud. A rope moves behind him, and before he knows
it, he is caught in yet another trap. Naruto curses, “NOOO!!! Damn it!!
The exact same trap right underneath me!!”
Kakashi forms a seal with his hands, and leaves encircle him. Sakura becomes
dazed by the flurry of leaves as they continue to dance before her eyes. Suddenly
they all vanish, leaving Sakura in the forest alone. Panicked, she looks around
her, wondering what just happened and where Sensei went. Behind a bush, she
hears a familiar voice calling her name. “That voice! Sasuke-kun!”
She rushes over to the bush.
A shocking sight greets her. Sasuke is on the ground, badly wounded: one of
his legs is broken, and he has kunai and shuriken jabbing into him all over
his body. He is bleeding badly and can barely support himself against a tree.
“Sakura…help…me.” Sakura’s eyes widen, and tears
start to fall from them. She lets out a piercing scream that is carried throughout
the forest, then passes out. Up in a tree, Kakashi reads through his book and
wonders if he might have gone too far.
Sasuke stops and looks in the direction of the scream. He recognizes it as
Sakura. From a distance behind him, Kakashi explains. “Shinobi Fighting
Lesson #2. Genjutsu. Sakura easily fell for it.” Genjutsu is a form of
hallucinatory hypnotism, and Sasuke admits that Sakura would fall prey to that
sort of tactic. The boy stands his ground, his back to Kakashi, and tells his
sensei, “But, I’m not the same as them.” Kakashi is unphased,
and continues to goad the boy. “Say that after you have a bell…Sasuke-kun.”
